AutoResearchClaw natively supports primary + fallback model configuration. The decided pattern is Opus 4.6 for 8 critical reasoning stages (hypothesis generation, literature synthesis, experiment design, paper writing, peer review simulation) and Haiku 4.5 for the remaining 15 routine stages (topic init, resource planning, export, status checks). Haiku 4.5 was chosen over GPT-4o-mini to stay entirely within the Anthropic ecosystem and avoid cross-provider latency.
