serena-mcp-stdio-transport-zero-idle-infra-cost

Serena uses stdio transport and is spawned as a per-session process (not a persistent daemon). It consumes zero CPU/RAM when Claude Code is not running and dies automatically when the session ends. The ‘permanent’ registration label means auto-registered at session start, not always-running. This makes serena safe as a permanent registration regardless of usage frequency — unlike HTTP MCP servers which run as persistent Docker containers.
