Stale Claude Code sessions reparented to systemd (PID 1) accumulate 400-640MB RSS each and generate orphaned subprocesses (e.g. stuck docker logs children). Sessions idle for 2-5h with no parent SSH process are safe to kill. Periodic cleanup via ps aux | grep claude reduces load significantly — in this audit load dropped from 10.89 to 3.91 on an 8 vCPU server.
